AuSCR News – April 2023

In an Australian first, the Australian Stroke Clinical Registry wishes to publicly recognise the hospitals that were considered top performers based on data submitted to the registry in 2021.

This calculation was based on a composite score of the acute hospital care national standards indicators, including management in a dedicated stroke unit, timely provision of reperfusion therapy (clot busting medication and/or clot retrieval procedure) and medications prescribed on discharge to reduce the risk of another stroke.   These hospitals also performed well at ensuring information from all eligible patients were included in the registry.

The top performing hospitals are:

Medium hospitals (75-350 stroke admissions)

Cairns Base Hospital (Qld)

Grampians Health Horsham (Vic)

Calvary Health Care (ACT)

Large hospitals (>350 stroke admissions)

Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (Qld)

Frankston Hospital (Vic)

Royal Melbourne Hospital (Vic)

Congratulations on this achievement to all the dedicated Stroke Teams providing high quality care for their patients.
