Ethics and governance approval is required prior to each hospital’s participation in the Australian Stroke Clinical Registry (AuSCR). Although participation in the registry does not influence patient treatment in any way, patient identifiers are collected to enable outcome data collection, which necessitates this approval. The AuSCR Office is able to assist with the preparation of ethics applications. All information provided to patients about the AuSCR requires ethics approval, and hospitals are obliged to follow the ethics approved protocol.
The registry uses an opt-out approach, meaning that hospitals inform patients about the registry, and all patients’ details will be included unless they chose to opt-out.
The AuSCR’s ethics framework supports the AuSCR’s compliance with the Australian Privacy Principles.
If you would like to discuss hospital participation in the AuSCR, please contact the AuSCR Office, and you will be put in touch with the coordinator responsible for your state.
